Surprise Visit By George Lucas Exposed As Hoax

IMG_1349

A few days ago Midtown Comics made headlines thanks to a visit from none other than George Lucas himself. The famed NYC comic megastore even tweeted a photo of a clerk standing next to what appeared to be Uncle George. But something didn’t look right.
Lesson #1, Midtown Comics, never try to fake us fakers!

Faking Star Wars immediately launched a full investigation. As it turns out, according to our NY affiliate, the George Lucas in the photo was not made of flesh and blood, but wax and paint instead. The “surprise Lucas visit” appears to have been an elaborate hoax concocted by a clerk at Midtown Comics and his friend, a tour guid at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, located a few blocks away. The duo transported the wax figure of Lucas to the comics shop in a crate, then carefully posed the eerily lifelike replica for a photo op.

After sharing the photo on Twitter, the hooligans hung a sign on the wax figure, inviting customers to try their hand at “Awakening the Force”  for a chance to win tickets to Star Wars Celebration.

Both culprits have since been suspended from their respective employers, and will be required to cover beard damages sustained by the wax figure. The real George Lucas could not be reached for comment.
