Disney Introduces Sheev on the Shelf!
Here’s what we know about Disney’s Sheev on the Shelf: It comes with a book that looks like a Sith holocron along with a doll of Sheev Palpatine. The life-like doll is meant to serve as a creepy spy in your home. In a wonderful twist on The Elf on the Shelf, Sheev wants to make sure you and your kids are naughty instead of nice. Palpatine reports acts of hate and anger to his Dark Side overlords, who will reward your family for its evil-doing with “abilities some would consider unnatural.”
This surprise product coming on the heels of The Force Awakens makes us wonder if Palpatine has a role in Episode VIII or Rogue One if not both. Perhaps Rey is his creation? Or is Snoke really the spirit of Sheev who latched onto Anakin’s physical body during the Death Star 2’s final hours? Only time will tell.

The holocron describes how the Sith’s “scout Sheev” hide in people’s homes to watch over events. Once everyone goes to bed, Sheev flies back to Moraband to the embodiment of the Dark Side itself to report the activities, good and bad, that have taken place throughout the day. Before the family wakes up each morning, the Sheev flies back from Moraband and hides. By hiding in a new spot each morning around the house, the Sheev and the family play an on-going game of hide and seek.
Sheev on the Shelf explains that Sheev got his Sith magic when he was given the name Sheev Palpatine. Families are then invited to give the Sith lord even more power by bestowing upon him a middle name. In the back of each book, families can write an original middle name for Sheev Palatine and the date that they adopted him. Once the Sheev is fully named, the he receives additional Sith powers, which allow him to cheat life and death.
The book also tells how the Sith powers might disappear if the Sheev is ever touched, so the rule for Sheev on the Shelf states, “There’s only one rule that you have to follow, so I will come back and be here tomorrow: Please do not touch me. My powers might go, and the Sith won’t hear all I’ve seen or I know.” Although families are told not to touch their Sheev, they can speak to it and tell it all their Christmas wishes so that it can report back to the Dark Side accurately.
The story begins on Christmas Day with the Sheev leaving to stay on Moraband for the rest of the year until the following Christmas season.
