What Will Happen to Finn Between Episodes VII and VIII?
One of the biggest cliffhangers at the end of The Force Awakens involved the fate of Finn. Last we saw him he was lying in a coma in the Resistance’s base on D’Qar. Obviously Finn wakes up as John Boyega has been filming scenes already, but what did the hero do upon waking? Did he go looking for Rey? Did he stay with his new best bud Poe? Or is he kicking BB-8 around the base with Snap Wexley? We will dive into this after the break.
We are proud to announce that Finn will be officially joining the Resistance and will be sent on missions with Poe. Together they pilot a modern version of the Y-wing, now a two-seating stealth bomber, on covert tactical missions with BB-8 in the astromech port.
So that was kind of expected, but what else? He has to do something special, right? Well he does! As it turns out, Finn will take on the last name of Dameron due to Poe adopting him as his own brother. Poe’s father, Kes (who will be portrayed by Benicio Del Toro) is a bit senile at this point and thought adopting a son would be good for Poe (whom Kes thinks is still a child). That settles that! Finn is Poe’s adopted brother. (Sorry shippers!)
Finn also becomes skilled in melee weapon combat. He decides to start wielding a tonfa (the weapon of “TR-8R” or FN-2199) in addition to carrying a good blaster at his side. This will come into play in a great fight scene early in the film. Episode VIII will pick up with Finn and Poe entering a First Order factory where they are testing new weaponry. Finn ends up in a duel with Captain Phasma who almost has him beat until Poe arrives at Finn’s side with BB-8. Phasma will take off only to be seen again later in the movie, but the fight will redeem Phasma’s lame/boring-ness from The Force Awakens. We will share more about Phasma at a later date.
