Rian Johnson Confirms Alien Cameo in Episode VIII

Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson has loved Xenomorphs since he first laid eyes on the celluloid creatures as a child. So, in celebration of Alien Day and to honor Ridley Scott’s sci-fi classic Alien, Johnson has announced something extra-special for fellow fans of the franchise. After the jump, we reveal why the surprise is great news for Alien-heads, but notsomuch for Rey, Finn, Poe, and company.

“As a tribute and homage to one of my favorite sci-fi flicks of all time, a Xenomorph from the Alien film series will be featuring in Episode VIII. We have received the rights to use the creature from 20th Century Fox and Ridley [Scott] himself who has come on board to make sure the Xenomorphs will act and appear as they are supposed to. We are very excited to have this inter-studio crossover and hope you are excited too!”

When hearing that Scott will be heading to the Star Wars set to insure the quality of the Alien, the news brought to our minds this question: “Are the two franchises set in the same fictional universe? Could Ripley be Rey’s mother?!” We reached out to Star Wars head of canon, Hablo Pidalgo and he had this to say…

“No. Absolutely not. That’s like assuming just because there are humans in Star Wars means that every film or piece of literature that features humans is in the same universe. The Alien will appear in Star Wars [Episode] VIII but the story from the Alien films will not effect the Star Wars story in any way and vice-versa. Although, I like the idea of Sigourney Weaver being Rey’s mother. I’ll pass it on to Kathy [Kennedy], she has a thing for strong women.”

Either way, this is great news for both Alien fans and Star Wars fans alike! We here at FakingStarWars.net are super excited to see Kylo Ren or Luke Skywalker take on a Xenomorph! Happy Alien Day and as always, stay tuned to FakingStarWars.net for the latest made up news from a made up galaxy far, far away.
