Exclusive! Carl Weathers Discusses The Mandalorian

For over 40 years the Star Wars franchise has captivated audiences with its dazzling special effects, dashing heroes, vile villains, and amazing storytelling. For the first time ever, a live action Star Wars series will hit the small screen in the upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian. The series has assembled an amazing cast including Narco’s Pedro Pascal as the title character, former MMA superstar Gina Carano, and of course Carl Weathers, best known for playing Apollo Creed in the beloved Rocky film series. Now he enters a galaxy far, far away as Greef Carga, leader of a mysterious bounty hunting organization.

FakingStarWars was able to catch up with Mr. Weathers during a break in production on the set of The Mandalorian.

On his lifelong love of Star Wars:

“I remember seeing the first movie at a second run theatre during a bargain matinee. I was completely blown away by the experience. I typically sneak in food from the outside, but this theatre included a free drink and small popcorn. Ever since then I’ve seen all the Star Wars movies at discount theaters that offer free snacks. Occasionally I’ll see a movie at a higher end theater if I get gift cards for Christmas or my birthday.”

On the challenges of taking on the role of Greef Carga:

“The Star Wars series is known for filming in exotic locations. Initially I thought I’d be filming in Tunisia or Norway. I didn’t want to use my frequent flier miles to travel; I almost have a million free miles. Once I found out we were filming in Los Angeles, and only a few miles from my house, I dove in head first.”

Can you relate to Carga?

“Absolutely! He’s the head of a successful bounty hunting guild. And I’ve run several successful ventures my entire life. And I know the struggle of trying to minimize costs. Carga successfully gets everyone to pay for everything so his pocketbook is always fat.”

Prior to returning to filming Mr. Weathers invited FakingStarWars to his private premier party for The Mandalorian. His friend signed up for Disney+ and Weathers was fortunate enough to gain access to his password. He told is to bring our own beer, lawn chairs, and snacks! Be sure to check back in to FakingStarWars after November 12th for our weekly reviews of The Mandalorian.
