Disney Channel Greenlights Star Wars Themed High School Musical Spin-Off
Wow! We didn’t see this one coming! Disney Channel is hell-bent on making another High School Musical movie and since they are pushing Star Wars like Salt-N-Pepa pushes… well everything, this should have been expected. More after the jump.
Jedi Academy Musical will be a made-for-tv movie for Disney Channel and will be set in the canon Star Wars universe. You heard me right, this WILL be canon! The story will be set between Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Episode II – Attack of the Clones and will follow young Jedi Padawan, Anakin Skywalker as he tries to fit in with the other kids in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. It’s going to be High School Musical, but with an edge. Our source describes it as The West Side Story of Star Wars.
Jake Lloyd will be returning to portray Anakin Skywalker. Anakin will be much younger than he appeared in Attack of the Clones, so Jake will be shaving his attempt at facial hair to appear around 16 years old. Ewan McGreggor will also be reprising his role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, flexing some of his song-and-dance skills last seen in Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge!. Samuel L. Jackson was unavailable due to his committment to the Marvel movies so Phill Lewis, known for his Disney Channel role of Mr. Moseby in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and it’s spin-off, will be portraying Mace Windu.
High School Musical alum, Zac Effron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, and Monique Coleman will be joining the cast, cameoing as Padawans who just graduated to knighthood.
Kenny Ortega and Peter Barsocchini will be back to direct/choreograph and write respectively.
The film will feature a Tusken Raider dance number, Womprat tap dancing, and a Tosche Station gang battle dance-off!
The main plot synopsis reads like this:
Anakin Skywalker, the chosen one, has a lot to deal with. Aside from leaving his mother, his former master Qui-Gon Jinn dying, his new master Obi-Wan Kenobi holding him back, and probably never seeing the love of his life again, Anakin faces the troubles of the Jedi Academy. He has a crush on Tina the Twi’lek who doesn’t know he exists, his best friend Robbie the Rodian never has his back, and Zech the Zabrak is a major bully. When Anakin and his buddies steal a starship and head to Tatooine for the Boota Eve podrace, it’s a mad dash to have a bit of fun and avoid any Trade Federation entanglements.
This had better be FAKE or some Star Wars fans will be flipping tables at Celebration 7 when this will be supposedly announced.
