Third Star Wars Spin-Off Gets Director and All-Star Cast! Spoilers!
Shocking news from the Star Wars Mystery Box today! We heard from a reliable source going by the moniker “Thanos” that the third Star Wars spin-off has found its director and top billed cast! See which A-listers are on board after the jump and as always, beware of SPOILERS!
First off, the director/writer will be none other than James Gunn, director of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Super, and Slither. While the film is still far off, Disney wanted to iron out a few details early in the process. Gunn told our source that he was very excited to take on Star Wars, a series he has loved since he was a child. The director is committed to bringing an original flair to the the film, similar to what George Lucas accomplished with the original trilogy.
Next, let’s talk about which A listers have been cast! While their roles were not 100% revealed to us, here’s the gist of who’s playing who, and some details regarding their characters. This may come as a shock to most but, the cast includes; Justin Timberlake, comedian Daniel Tosh, pop singers Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato, Ellen Page, and Nathan Fillion.
Here’s what we have on their characters.
Justin Timberlake is the main character and portrays a single dad down on his luck. His young son is very sick and he has no money. He joins up with Nathan Fillion, a shady smuggler, to earn a wage to get his child the care he needs.
Daniel Tosh portrays Timberlake’s droid sidekick. He is reminiscent of Dash Rendar’s droid LEEBO from the novel and video game Shadows of the Empire. Timberlake has always threatened to sell Tosh, but can’t bring himself to because the droid is his only true friend.
Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato portray Twi’lek sisters who hire Fillion for random jobs. They run a brothel on the lower levels of Coruscant.
Ellen Page portrays Fillion’s daughter and Timberlake’s love interest. She doesn’t like him at first, but comes around to him later in the film. She isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty.
Nathan Fillion portrays a smuggler who takes on Timberlake as a member of his crew. He is well-known throughout the underworld of the galaxy as the best at what he does. Our source went on to say that while he is similar to Han Solo, Fillion’s character has a dark sense of humor and doesn’t mind taking a life when he has to.
The antagonist of the film was not revealed to us at this time, but “Thanos” did claim it will be the mother of Swift’s and Lovato’s characters. After a deal gone wrong, she wants Fillion’s head on a silver platter.
Other bits include a cameo from Alan Tudyk and that there will be no mention of the Force in the film, besides a name drop of a famous Jedi and Fillion’s rough use of a lightsaber.
