Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the Mystery of “Scat Cat!”
At least once an hour we get emails asking if there are any Frog Dogs in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We have no idea! That’s the faking truth. As for cats, well, no one’s ever emailed us asking about them, but that’s not about to stop us from sharing what we’ve heard. After the jump, we solve the mystery of “Scat Cat!”
There has been a character we have struggled to identify in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We do not know the character’s name, just the code name. That code name is “Scat Cat.” We have no clue as to what this character looks or sounds like. The biggest thing we have been able to uncover is that “Scat Cat” is part of a flashdance sequence.
At first we thought “Scat Cat” had something to do with this little fella from the anime series Space Dandy, but it turned out to be a deadend so our investigation led us to to Disney’s Aristocats, which featured a character named Scat Cat. This particular horn-playing cat was part of a jazz band called “O’Malley and the Alleycats.” Without spoiling the movie for you, the band helps foil a “catnapping” scheme by the main villain. Their act of courage is greatly appreciated by a wealthy cougar of a Frenchwoman. So much so, she winds up “cat-dopting” Scat Cat and his crew.
Knowing what we did (zilch) about the Aristocats, the staff at FSW immediately began putting 2 and 2 together. “Fat Cat” must mean there is a jazzanova or jazzmatazz (R.I.P. Guru) inspired number in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It made perfect sense, considering the rumor of “Rose’s Pub” being a location in the film. But flashdancing… to jazz?! We just couldn’t imagine such a sequence, so we did some more sniffing.
Our resident lolcats experts began to probe the lyrical content of O’Malley and the Alleycats’ biggest hit, “Everybody Wants to Be a Cat.” Nothing, absolutely nothing made sense with what we know of the plot to the next installment in the Star Wars franchise.
That’s when we realized our mistake. The email we received was poorly written with typos and subject verb disagreements in every clause of every run-on sentence. While our source may have listed “Scat Cat”… they must have meant to type “Skat Kat,” “MC Skat Kat” to be precise!
Now it all makes sense. If you recall, MC Skat Kat was featured in Paula Abdul’s hit song “Opposites Attract.” The video for the pop confection centered on the 2D animated Kat flirting heavily with the live action Abdul. Their chemistry was undeniable, certainly responsible for the track’s success. In fact, the song was so big at the time, MC Skat Kat released his own album.
“But what’s that got to do with the price of power converters?” Well, here’s what we think: there must be an R&B flashdance number performed at Rose’s Pub, which culminates in a furry or something like a furry dumping water on itself. Furthermore, we believe there is a meta meaning to the codename of “Skat Kat.”
Given the title to MC Skat Kat’s most successful song, we feel it is inevitable that the two characters who are most dissimilar will take two steps forward, and one step back, because opposites attract. The billion dollar question: is it Finn and Rey, Poe and Rey, or Finn and Poe? That’s all for meow, but stay tuned to FakingStarWars for the latest on The Force Awakens and exclusive Star Wars disinformation.
