After the heartbreaking death of Patrick Dempsey’s Doctor Derek Shepherd in last night’s episode of ABC’s hit medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, fans are wondering who will step in to piece Meredith’s heart back together. Well we have the answer for you, Grey’s fans! None other than Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, Hayden Christensen will be joining the Grey’s cast in season 12! More details after the jump!

We have an insider at ABC Studios who told us that Hayden was selected by Dempsey out of a list of possible suitors for his widow earlier this week. Our insider claims Dempsey said he is a “huge fan of Hayden’s work” and that he “brings the proper gravitas to his acting that is perfect for Grey’s.”

We actually managed to get a quote from Anakin himself regarding his new casting.

“I’m a huge fan of Grey’s! I’ve been watching since [the first season] and have had a huge crush on Ellen [Pompeo] from day one! Don’t tell my wife!”

He laughs.

“It’s really an honor to join such a talented cast and work with Shonda [Rhimes]. I really admire her work on television.”

The next question is a big one really. Will Hayden’s character be a new doctor on the scene? Someone who has been working at Slone-Grey Memorial Hospital the entire time but finally getting screen time? A patient Meredith falls for a la Denny Duquette? Or just some guy in a bar? Hayden was bound to a non-disclosure agreement so he couldn’t talk much about the character other than that he will be Meredith’s love interest for all of season 12 and that he will get into a fist fight with Justin Chambers’ character Alex Karev.

Stay tuned to Faking Star Wars as we get more information on Hayden’s role.
