Robert Downey Jr. has played Iron Man since the character’s film saga began in 2008. Marvel seems to have no plans of ending the film franchise any time soon and rumors have been swirling as to whether RDJ will reprise his role in the upcoming fourth installment or not. Hit the jump to see how Star Wars Episode VIII may decide the fate of the Iron Man franchise for years to come.

RDJ has yet to give a definitive answer on his return for the next Iron Man installment. We’ve learned from Jacen’s parazzi cousin that RDJ and Rian Johnson have been spotted bro’ing out around L.A. recently and it may be for good reason. Rian Johnson is possibly scouting Downey Jr. for a role in Star Wars VIII as a new droid character. The beans were inadvertently spilled at the recent Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim when someone accidentally revealed the new character’s name during Anthony Daniels’ address to the crowd.

We have obtained an early costume test photo of the character named CP-30. He is reportedly the result of a jawa juice fueled night involving C-3P0 and a gonk droid. The character will be the first droid character to possess a midichlorian level of any kind and will also begin Disney’s venture into analternative sexual orientation character as well. Early reports hint that his character may despise his parents and as a result embrace the darkside of the force. RDJ is apparently obsessed with the possibility of appearing in Star Wars film so this role could very well be the straw that breaks the iron camel’s back. His recent freakout during an interview could be telltale signs that he’s already getting into character for Star Wars VIII.
