Exclusive! Finn’s Backstory Revealed!
With the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens a cool 4 months away, JJ Abrams has finally come out with some details regarding the back story of some of the newest characters in the SW universe. After the jump, read on to find out about John Boyega’s character’s backstory!
JJ was recently quoted saying that the last names of Finn and Rey have been intentionally withheld from adoring fans. That has fueled a bog of speculation regarding these characters’ origins. In a sudden press release this week, Abrams dispelled any notions about Boyega’s character being related to Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Lando Calrissian, or even Mace Windu.
“Finn is most definitely not genetically related to the other characters in the universe,” said Abrams, munching on an Irish corned beef sandwich. “I’ve often been fascinated by the Irish myths, and Finn’s character embodies those stories. With that in mind, I can confirm that John Boyega is playing Finn O’Toole, an Irishman in hiding on a mission to become a Jedi leprechaun.”
Boyega will go on a mission to bring good craic to the other members of the resistance against the empire. “Think of the resistance in this movie as a metaphor for the IRA”, said Abrams. “Ruddy, cheeky, and full of good cheer. They bring their wee fight for galactic independence to the oppressive forces of the (British) Empire. Did you really think it was a coincidence all the bad guys in Star Wars have English accents?”
Finn O’Toole’s lightsaber will also undergo a transition in The Force Awakens as he searches the deserts of Jakku for the clover crystal that will transform his saber into an undulating green and orange hue with a creamy Guinness head on top.
“George Lucas put a lot of subtle clues in the original trilogy to prepare us for this Irish element to the new trilogy,” said Abrams. For instance, do you think casting an actor named Alec Guinness was really an accident?”
Additional speculation has been fueled given the fact that scenes for The Force Awakens were completed on the Irish island of Skellig Michael. Jacen’s Irish cousin, an investigative reporter for FakingStarWars.net, went undercover into a local pub, O’Vader’s, in the area to get some extra details.
Paddy McDoherty, the proprietor of the establishment, explained “Ah sure, I seen that black fella’ all dressed up like a wee leprechaun. They was doing a scene in a cave with a wee pot o’ gold. He come in here after the shoot pounding Guinness pints and shooting his mouth like a holy show, don’t you know. Wonder the whole world didn’t know who he was playing.”
Fans can pick up their “Finn O’Toole” action figure this Friday, complete with green top hat and bowl of lucky charms.
