Official The Force Awakens Full Trailer Release Date!
Speculation on the release of the new full two and a half minute trailer has let fans down a few times: SDCC, D23, after the Instagram Teaser and even Force Friday were hyped as “the” trailer day. With only 96 days to go until the release of The Force Awakens, Faking Star Wars has unlocked JJ’s mystery box and pushed our fist deep inside to learn the real answer. After the jump find the droid you are looking for…
JJ wasn’t kidding when he said he was in no rush to release the trailer. Disney would have it another way since the longer it takes for the trailer to be released, the less Original Trilogy character merchandise they can sell (yes, you are reading that correctly, the new trailer features all three of the main stars from the original saga as well as one you are not expecting).
So when will we get the trailer?
December 18th. Yup, did you recoil in your seat and want to punch an Ewok like we did? You read that correctly – December 18th. The trailer will be released only in theatres for just one week, attached to the front of Star Wars: The Force Awakens around the globe.
JJ spoke with Entertainment Weekly discussing this bold strategy:
“The term trailer comes from the 40′s when these movie previews TRAILED the film; they were played after the feature back then. We want to reinvent movie marketing and Star Wars fans are the perfect test audience. Seeing the trailer, all that built up anticipation, months of it! All that anticipation- you see the trailer and then boom, the movie starts immediately after, meanwhile your excitement is at an all time high… I can’t think of anything better.”
I’m not sure I agree but since JJ is telling us we’ll like it and we’ve eaten from his magic spoon for a few years now, I guess I’ll go in open-mouthed. My cousin Jacen pointed out that the few times he’s been with a woman, seeing her naked for the first time right before engaging in the romp-romp didn’t stop him from being thrilled at the sight of her right before. In that sense, I cannot wait to undress Lady Force on the new, true Christmas; December 18th.
Oh and for everyone wondering, Disney has agreed to keep theatre house lights on during the trailer and allow a three minute break before film starting so narcissistic fans will be able to film and upload their reaction videos.
