Top 10 Faking Star Wars Stories of 2015
From Spoilerman and Beardgate to free pizza and donuts by way of JJ Abrams, Star Wars fans experienced an onslaught of speculation, PR spin, and long, long lines on our our way to December 17th. Fortunately The Force Awakens delivered (kinda sorta) so we can look back fondly at the shenanigans of the last 12 months. After the jump, we share our favorite FSW stories of the year. You’ll see we were wrong sometimes (YAY!) we were right sometimes (Sorry!) — hell, we even got a friendly letter from Disney lawyers, but through it all we’ve had a blast. Hopefully you’ve enjoyed what our band of moofmilkers have pumped out in 2015 as well. Expect bigger and better things next year as we go transmedia with FSW. Thanks for reading, commenting, and sharing!
Below are the best Faking Star Wars stories as selected by the lot of us. You’ll find a mix of satire, speculation, and satirical speculation in the mix. Click through to see why we find it worthy if you haven’t already read the posts.
10. Midtown Comics Pulls a Fake George Lucas Out of Their Hat
Nothing beats stealing a wax figure of Uncle George in order to get some traffic at your comic shop. This one had many people fooled on Twitter as the faux Lucas was very lifelike despite being made of wax. Still no CG!
09. Cast of Force Awakens Responds to #BoycottStarWarsVII
While the year was filled with highs, one of its lows was the ugly campaign waged against The Force Awakens by racists upset with the casting of John Boyega as one of the leads in the film. Good thing the cast was allowed to fire a few shots back and put these nerfherders in their place!
08. Exclusive Force Awakens Track List Leaks
FSW was fortunate enough to get our grubby little hands on the track listing of John Williams’ soundtrack before anyone else. Who knew it would fail to deliver on so many fronts. You know it to be true.
07. Top 10 Things in Kylo Ren’s Stool Room
Our favorite little emo Knight of Ren has quite the collection of weird crap in his stool room. Shocker!
06. Parking Lot Celebration & Slap Fight Results
This year saw Jake Lloyd’s first annual Parking Lot Celebration take no prisoners as the sell-out crowds were treated to a host of WIZARD! worthy events. Of course the highlight of the event was the heavily promoted slap fight between two of the Star Wars communities biggest voices: Making Star Wars’ Editor-in-Chief Jason “The Beat” Ward and Star Wars News Net’s Editor-in-Chief Viral “Raw” Hide.
05. Faking Star Wars Central Office Trashed
As the lone fakers in Star Wars fandom, we risk our lives every day to bring you satire. Over the last year we’ve made several enemies within the community — people who take things way too seriously. Try as me may to clearly label things FAKE and SPOILER and SPECULATION, some folks still have it out for us. As a result, our main office was recently vandalized by several hooded fiends. Rest assured, they will not scare us out of the faking game.
04. Leaked Audio from The Force Awakens Trailer
Garbled but legit — this leak was a genuine coup for FSW. The audio from the trailer helped turn many doubters into ardent supporters of our ‘so fake it’s real, so real it’s fake’ blog.
03. Oscar Isaac to Star in B.J. and the Bear Remake
This piece was so left field, we couldn’t help parking it in the top 3 slot. In addition to paying tribute to the late Glen A. Larson, this story is the first and likely last piece we’ll ever run with a Playgirl cover image. Shout out to Greg Evigan for being a great sport and showing us some love on Twitter. “Best trucker in the galaxy!”
02. First Image of Luke Skywalker from The Force Awakens
FSW was the first site to run a now infamous image of a bearded Luke Skywalker from Episode VII. We were also the first site to receive a now infamous cease and desist letter from Disney lawyers. See how that works! We’ve since agreed to stick to satire and speculation… for everyone’s sake. Hi Pablo! Hi Matt!
01. Top 10 Reasons John Boyega Refers to Daisy Ridley as “Peanut”
One of the joys of the last year has been watching the leads of The Force Awakens interact with fans. They’re truly wonderful ambassadors for the Star Wars brand. You can tell they’re having a great time, and this is most apparent when the stars are together, especially John Boyega and Daisy Ridley. This dynamic duo are always kidding each other in social media, and this story plays off John’s cute-as-heck nickname for Daisy. Shippers, eat your hearts out.
