Exclusive: Zendaya Coleman Cast for Star Wars NOT Spider-Man!
Disney Channel starlet, Zendaya Coleman has reportedly been cast in Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot, but apparently the “inspiders” got their webs crossed. As is turns out, the 19 year old singer/actress combo was cast in a different Disney production, the young Han Solo Star Wars anthology film. More details after the Force jump!
Now keep your Stormtrooper underoos on, nerds, this isn’t as bad as you think. Zendaya will be a great fit for the Star Wars universe, especially for the character she is reported to be portraying. The casual Star Wars fan won’t know this character, but the die hard canon fanatics will recognize the character instantly.
About a year ago, Marvel put out a Star Wars comic book featuring a brand new character that claimed to be the spouse of our favorite scoundrel, Han Solo. This strong female character will be making her big screen debut in Lord and Miller’s Han Solo anthology film. Zendaya will be portraying Sana Starros, Han’s feisty partner from his pre-Rebellion days.
We know what you’re thinking at this point, “Why do we know who will be Han’s love interest in the film before we know who will be portraying Solo himself?” As it turns out, Disney is still hard at work on casting the correct actor that will be able to pull off a perfect performance of a youthful version of Harrison Ford. Now that Zendaya has been cast, however, Disney is starting to do some chemistry auditions to find the perfect Corellian to roll with the actress.
FakingStarWars has also gotten word as to why it was mistaken that Coleman would be in Spider-Man rather than Han Solo. There is a photo circulating the dark web of Zendaya sporting bright red hair, akin to Peter Parker’s all-time love interest, Mary Jane Watson. So Zendaya would seem to be the obvious choice to play a “race-swapped” MJ. But there is a reason for the red hair. Coleman was wearing a ginger wig imitating her real life BFF, Bella Thorne, who we have on good authority to announce is set to portray a reworked version of the EU/Legends character, Mara Jade (the young version of Larua Dern’s character in Episode VIII).
Apparently the anthology will be a “team-up” film where Han, Lando, Chewbacca, and Lobot join forces with a trio of ladies to complete a task which is still shroud in secrecy. One of Jacen’s cousins speculates this anthology could be a modified take on the semi-recent Timothy Zahn novel Scoundrels, where Han and Lando work together on a grand heist scheme with an odd group of other miscreants. Rounding out this new trio of ladies will be Coleman’s “sister,” the singer now turned actress, Kehlani as a mystery alien/hacker. We here at FakingStarWars are betting on a Twerk’lek.
Our source from within Disney is calling the trio Star Wars‘ answer to Charlie’s Angels or Ocean’s Eleven with none other than The Force Awakens‘ Maz Kanata filling the Charlie role. Yes, this is where Han first meets Maz! Also, Lupita Nyong’o will be returning to the role of Maz but we are still waiting on final confirmation on who will be portraying the young versions of Lando, Lobot, and Chewbacca which we will possibly reveal later this week if given the go-ahead.
