J.J. Abrams Pursuing Fantastic Four Reboot
NEW YORK, NY — Following the Tribeca Film Festival, it seems that J.J. Abrams is taking Chris Rock’s advice as The Force Awakens director is now pushing both Marvel Studios/Disney and 20th Century Fox to allow him to direct the next big screen incarnation of the Fantastic Four. After Josh Trank’s less-than-stellar adaption of Marvel’s first family, comic fans and casual moviegoers alike need a solid version to add to the constantly growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I’ve always been a Fantastic [Four] fan,” Abrams told a Faking Fandom reporter late last night at a local Buffalo Wild Wings. “And if I was going to do a comic book film, that would be it. I’d take a new approach at their origin. Instead of a rocket passing through some weird spectral field or teleporting to the Negative Zone to get their powers, they would be testing a time machine and the flux in the time-space continuum would give them their fantastic abilities. Just imagine. You wake up in another time and place and your body is on the fritz. How this would fit into the greater cinematic universe is still up for debate, but I’d love for them to face Kang [the Conqueror]. [Doctor] Doom has been over done and executed poorly each time.”
J.J. went on to tell our reporter that he and Chris Rock, who J.J. claims will be his “apprentice” on set, are currently in negotiations with Disney CEO Bob Iger and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to try and make his “fantastic” vision a reality. While a deal with Fox, who still own the film rights to the foursome, hasn’t been publicly announced J.J. is confident he will get the chance to make this film happen, similar to how Disney/Marvel struck an agreement with Sony Pictures to make Spider-Man happen in the MCU.
“I’m sure this will happen. Bob [Iger] loves me after I killed it with The Force Awakens. He basically gives me anything I want now. Oh, Chris and I want Daisy [Ridley] to be Susan [Invisible Woman].”
