Billboard Wars Erupt Over Expanded Universe

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Laser shots fired back! The billboard erected by a group of Star Wars fans pleading for Lucasfilm to bring back the now-defunct Expanded Universe has spawned a response in the form of a second billboard paid for by the opposition. The massive structure features the original Death Star in firing mode with its laser pointed directly at the first billboard. Adding insult to injury, the messaging on the huge structure pleads Lucasfilm to discontinue the Expanded Universe and “blow up Legends” – the current term for Expanded Universe content.

An FSW probe discovered the first billboard was paid for by an Indiegogo campaign hell bent on generating buzz in Lucasfilm’s neighborhood. The campaign’s point of contention revolves around the characters, planets, and lore made famous in various Star Wars comic book, novels, and games between the years 1976-2014. Supporters would like to have the content recognizes as Star Wars canon, which currently only includes the films, and a handful of comic books and novels released post-Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm.

At the time of press, it is still unclear what group is behind the second billboard in what has been dubbed “The Billboard Wars” but one thing’s certain: they have literally overshadowed the first group’s message.

We reached out to Lucasfilm, who provided the following statement:

It’s great to have so many passionate fans, but we’d direct them to put their money and efforts towards something a bit more meaningful like Force for Change.
