Weird Name Wins Alden Ehrenreich Role of Young Han Solo
HOLLYWOOD, CA – The months-long search for a young Han Solo has finally ended with Alden Ehrenreich besting competitors by a syllable or two. This ends a very long casting process for directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The duo had the near impossible task of finding someone who could capture the charisma of a young Harrison Ford, while also sporting a “cool Star Wars-y name.”
“Han Solo is a classic name, but it’s a bit dull in the grand scheme of things, so we wanted an actor with a name that was more complicated, more hyphenated, and straight-up weirder than Solo’s,” said Lord.
According to insiders, the name game went on for quite a while with the director’s shortlist made up of Ehrenreich, Taron Egerton, and Ansel Elgort. While Scott Eastwood and Jack Reynor looked the part, their names lacked that special something, “like a hypen, umlauts, or maybe a girl’s middle name” said Miller.
“Ansel was a favorite of ours, but his full name only has four syllables. Really leaves a lot to be desired. Also between us, Ansel felt a bit too Old Republic,” added Lord.
FSW has heard Lord and Miller’s finalists were forced to add up the Scrabble values of their complete names, including middle names and nicknames. In the end, Alden Caleb “Little Fuhrer” Ehrenreich bested Taron David “Ace” Egerton to nab the role.
“I’m thrilled we found the kid with the weirdest name in Hollywood. I still don’t know how to say it, and I took a semester of German” said Miller.
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is currently in preproduction.
