Lin-Manuel Miranda & Rian Johnson To Debut Tauntaun Wampa Song in Episode VIII
BROADWAY, NY — Shag Kava aka Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and star of smash hit Hamilton, is returning to the Star Wars galaxy once again. Sources confirm Miranda has begun collaborating with Episode VIII director Rian Johnson on a follow-up to his Kava and J.J. Abrams’ “Jabba Flow” music track from The Force Awakens. We’re told the new song will be featured during a scene inside an “ice bar” on a planet similar to Hoth, but all new to Star Wars.
According to spies deep within the production, “Tauntaun Flow” is a reggaeton-infused track that mashes up snow lizard sounds with the language of the Taino Indians from the Caribbean. Miranda, who is of Puerto Rican descent, is said to have really put his heart and soul into the instrumentation and lyrics of the song. Apparently, the master composer even convinced Johnson to perform a rap interlude in Wampa-ese.
One of our sources elaborated:
“Imagine Black Rob’s “Whoa” sped up to Miami Sound Machine Shake Ya Body Baby Do That Conga levels with tauntauns yelling and some tribal chanting, then the drop, boom! Outta nowhere, a hardcore Wampa attack, followed by more salsa… I’ve never experienced anything like it before.”
Expect to hear Miranda and Johnson’s unique collaboration for yourself when Episode VIII opens on December 17, 2017. In the meantime, Miranda is looking to take home more than a few Tony Awards on June 12th, where Hamilton is nominated for a record-breaking 16 statues. Buena Suerte, Lin! Nuyorico Represent!
