According to George Lucas, Captain Panaka Also Not Dead Says Hugh Quarshie

ACCRA, GHANA — It seems Samuel L. Jackson may have opened the floodgates last week when he revealed that Mace Windu is alive, according to Star Wars creator George Lucas.

Just this morning, sources tell of another Prequel star making similar claims. Hugh Quarshie, a huge star here in his native Ghana, believes the suns have not set on Captain Panaka as seen in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The actor sat down with FakingStarWars.net and gave us an exclusive look at his emails.

What we found certainly points to Panaka still being alive. Quarshie sent a series of ALL CAPS emails to Lucas last week. Each message became subsequently more and more specific and demanding as per Panaka’s cinematic future. In the clearest proof that Lucas is okay with Quarshie reprising the role, his last email contains the following subject line:

IF YOU DO NOT REPLY, CAPTAIN TANAKA WILL LIVE ON IN FILM, TV, AND VIDEOGAME PROPERTIES. SILENCE IS ACCEPTANCE AND MY SURVIVAL WILL BECOME CANON LIKE MACE WINDOW BEFORE ME. I SHALL NOT BE RELEGATED TO AN INGLORIOUS DEMISE OFF-SCREEN!

“It’s been 4 days now… not a peep. And I have the return receipt, so I know George opened the email. He wants me to live. He’s okay with that. I know he doesn’t make the movies anymore, but I’ll be sending Kathleen Kennedy and Pablo Hidalgo similar notes in the next day or so, along with a silent quote and endorsement from Lucas.”

Thank you for hosting us at your estate, Mr. Quarshie. Your outfit in Episode I clearly inspired Poe Dameron’s jacket in The Force Awakens. So your legacy is alive and well if not your character. Hopefully ’twas a precursor to bigger and better things to come.
