Disney Announces 4K Ultimate Jedi Master Edition Blu-Ray of The Force Awakens
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA — “No, there is another” could well be used to describe Disney’s approach to Blu-Ray releases of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Just 24 hours after announcing a four-disc “3D Collector’s Edition” set to debut on November 15th, the Mouse House has unveiled yet another version.
The six-disc “4K Ultimate Jedi Master Edition” boasts even greater visual fidelity and a list of its own exclusive featurettes. Whereas the 3D release’s most compelling new content is a commentary track by director J.J. Abrams, the 4K version raises the stakes considerably.
In addition to Abrams’ commentary, the “4K Ultimate Jedi Edition” also features a super rare commentary track by Star Wars creator George Lucas. As exciting as that is, this next pack-in steals the show: Lucas’ original Episode VII outline (which was passed over in favor of Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams’ own ideas) along with Michael Arndt’s screenplay will also be included.
Not to worry, Abrams’ fans, the 4K edition also has a new collectible for you as well. For the first time ever, a genuine lock of the director’s iconic hair will be included in this Blu-Ray release. We imagine fans will find a way to clone Abrams before the end of next year. The “4K Ultimate Jedi Master Edition” is set to debut in February, 2017.
