Episode VIII Swaps Dates with Pirates 5 to Coincide with Star Wars 40th Anniversary
In a dramatic twist of fate, an insider at Disney has informed us that Star Wars Episode VIII will return to its original May 26th, 2017 release date to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the initial release of 1977’s Star Wars. More after the jump.
While Pirates of the Caribbean fans are screaming out in agony, as the long awaited fifth installment in the series has been pushed back yet again, Star Wars fans clamor in joy as the space fantasy returns to its proper release window of May.
Disney thought this would be the best move to give Pirates director, Joachim Ronning, more time to edit with new reshoots being added to the production schedule since the editing process is already way ahead of schedule for Rian Johnson’s team working on Episode VIII.
Does this mean the editing and post-production for Episode VIII will be rushed and result in a messy film like this summer’s flop Suicide Squad? Absolutely not. Our insider assures us that this will work out just fine for both parties involved and will strengthen the franchises. We are told Johnson is both fine with less time and ecstatic to make sure the film will come out in time for the anniversary.
In regards to Pirates, which will now release on December 15th, 2017, Disney wants to avoid more lackluster in-house franchise films like this year’s Alice: Through the Looking Glass by putting the proper time into the editing and reshoot schedule. So there’s no reason to worry, fellow pirates.
