Exclusive: Saw Gerrera’s Save the Dream Speech from Rogue One

Saw, when he delivers the "Save the Dream" speech in Rogue One.

Huge Rogue One news today. An FSW spy managed to get his grubby hands on two pages of the script. Please understand, this is a pre-reshoot version of the script, so some words may be off, but the following monologue by Saw Gerrera is said to occur prior to the final battle in Rogue One. It is an inspirational speech, which galvanizes the scrappy Rebels and gives them some much needed new hope (groan).

Without further ado, Saw Gerrera’s “Save the Dream” speech from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story;

I say to you today, my Rebel friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the Republic’s dream.

Save the dream so that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal.”

Save the dream so that one day on the red hills of Mustafar the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of Jedi brotherhood.

Save the dream so that one day even the state of Mandalore, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of clones, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

Prior to Rogue One and The Clone Wars, Saw was a boy scout leader.

Save the dream so that my four little padawan will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their lightsabers but by the content of their holocrons.

Save the dream today.

Save the dream so that one day down in Coruscant, with its vicious racists, with its Senators having their lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, that one day right down in Tatooine little black droids and black clones will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

Save the dream today.

Save the dream so that one day every valley shall be exhalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Bendu shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

Before Rogue One, Saw ran for president of his homeplanet of Onderon.

This is our hope. This is the Force that I will go back to Scarif with. With this Force we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this Force we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our universe into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.

With this Force we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to Cloud City together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

This will be the day when all Jedi children will be able to sing with new meaning, “My nation ’tis of thee, sweet land of swamprats, of thee I sing. Land where my Jedi died, land of the Jabba pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring and save the dream.

Powerful, right? When we read it aloud here at FSW headquarters, not a dry eye could be found. Hopefully Gareth Edwards can do this Rogue One scene justice. As always stay tuned to FakingStarWars.net for all the latest and fakest Star Wars news in the galaxy.
