JJ Abrams to Direct a Flashpoint Film?
SANTA MONICA, CA — Yesterday, Warner Bros Pictures announced director Rick Famuyiwa has left The Flash. While DC fandom is still in shock, a savior has risen from the ashes left behind by Famuyiwa. A savior loved by nerds everywhere. That’s right… JJ Abrams. The Star Wars director has thrown his name into The Flash hat, offering his services to WB, under one condition. He gets to make ALL casting choices and bring in a new script and story writer. From what FSW was told by a source close to Abrams, he wants to use time travel in the film, loosely telling a story based on Flashpoint. He intends to title the film, The Flash: Paradox.
FSW learned that Abrams is a huge fan of the Flash. When one of our interns reached out to him, Abrams had this to say:
“My first Flash memory was seeing Barry Allen appear in Challenge of the Super Friends back in 1977. I remember seeing a man in red zip around so fast. It stuck in my head even though I wasn’t an athletic kid. I actually got into track in high school because of Flash! From there I went into the comics and I’ve read every single story he appeared in.”
Abrams also wants to include his second favorite DC hero into the story, Booster Gold. Who does he want to be Booster Gold you ask? Why his fat best friend, Greg Grunberg of course! Along with Grunberg, Abrams intends to bring The Force Awakens cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and Mark Hamill into The Flash as well. What roles you ask? Well, Abrams wants Isaac to voice Booster Gold’s robot sidekick Skeets. No information was given regarding the remaining TFA cast members.
Abrams intends for The Flash to have 2 stories bouncing back and forth. The main story will follow Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, the side story is Booster Gold’s experience during the Flashpoint comics. The two will end up teaming up at the end rather than never interacting as in the comics. Abrams did tell FSW that this will not be a Booster Gold movie, it will be Flash and foremost.
“Booster Gold is only being brought in to tell the whole Flashpoint story. The Flash television series did not do the story justice and it needs to be told properly! Greg will be great as Booster as well. He has the charm and charisma needed for the character. Don’t worry, he’s going on a diet. ‘No more Grunburgers,’ I told him!”
What do you think about Abrams wanting to direct a Flashpoint movie? Do you think adding The Force Awakens actors is a good move? What about Grunberg as Booster Gold? Tell us what you think in the comments!
