Kathleen Kennedy Reveals Why Josh Trank Was Fired
In an interview with Variety, Kathleen Kennedy talked about Rogue One, the Han Solo solo film, Disney head-honcho Bob Iger, and her desire to hire female directors. The biggest takeaway from this was the apparent reasoning behind why Josh Trank was fired from a Star Wars spin-off, rumored to be based on Boba Fett.
A short time after it was announced Trank would be the director of an upcoming Star Wars anthology, Lucasfilm made a statement that he was stepping down from the project, citing no reasons why.
Well, Trank-heads, we finally have an answer for you.
Kennedy says strong women are the key to success these days and that’s why she’s hiring a female director for a future Star Wars spin-off.
“We want to make sure that when we bring a female director in to do Star Wars, they’re set up for success. That’s why we fired Josh Trank. He just isn’t a woman! Setting him up for success would have been much more challenging due to him being a male director rather than any female directer out there.”
FSW was able to get a list of female directors Kennedy is eyeing to direct an upcoming Star Wars film. It includes Sofia Coppola, Kathryn Bigelow, Catherine Hardwicke, Sarah Polley, Nancy Meyers, and Patty Jenkins.
Sources close to Trank have told FSW that the director is suing Kennedy, Bob Iger, Lucasfilm, and the Walt Disney Company for wrongful termination.
