Star Wars: Episode VIII
- Begins right after “The Force Awakens“
- Luke decides to train Rey, but their relationship is contentious. Luke found out that Kylo had been corrupted by Snoke and journeyed to the ancient Jedi temple to learn how to defeat Snoke.
- Snoke sends Kylo and the Knights of Ren to kill Luke and Rey. Luke defeats the Knights of Ren, while Kylo and Rey fight, and unexpectedly develop a bond of sorts. Rey reacts badly when Luke tells her that in order to beat Snoke she must kill Kylo.
- Finn ends up on a mission with a Resistance pilot/mechanic (Kelly Marie Tran) with an “unique” backstory, and they fall in love. Captain Phasma is viciously hunting Finn down to restore her lost honor.
- Leia gets injured in a First Order attack early on and a politician (Laura Dern) takes over the Resistance, but tries to negotiate some kind of treaty with the First Order that leaves them stalled. Poe then essentially leads a mutinity against her and takes charge himself to save his friends in the third act.
- Finn and KMT eventually run into a morally ambiguous “Man in Black” (Benicio Del Toro) who runs a “casino-like planet”.
- Rey and Finn eventually reunite and must face Kylo and Snoke. Unexpected revelations about the Force are made. Luke appears and fights Snoke, but they both retreat. Snoke tries to entice Rey, Kylo gets butthurt and leaves with a captive Rey to find a “middle ground” between the Dark Side and the Light.
That’s everything known so far about the second entry in Disney’s sequel trilogy. Now you’ve got plenty to talk about over Thanksgiving dinner!
