Harrison Ford to “Han Solo” His Other Characters
After getting his “dying wish” in The Force Awakens with Han Solo being killed off, Harrison Ford has gone on record stating he wants a similar ending for the rest of the iconic characters he has portrayed on film. Ford is dead set against having his likeness recreated in CGI after his inevitable real life death.
In a recent interview with WTFSW radio out of Albuquerque, Illinois, Ford made this statement regarding his upcoming sequels; the untitled fifth Indiana Jones film and Bladerunner 2049.
“I told them I’d do Indiana Jones 5 and Bladerunner 2 but only if they kill me off like Han Solo in Star Wars 7. JJ [Abrams] was accommodating and I’m hoping Steve [Spielberg] and Denis [Villeneuve] will both be too. I saw Rogue One after Carrie [Fisher] passed and seeing her like that was very unsettling. I don’t want my friends and family to see ME like that. Oh and don’t get me started on Peter Cushing.”
Ford also stated that he is urging Disney to complete the American Graffiti trilogy with a sequel set 30 years after the events of 1979’s More American Graffiti. According to Ford, the film would center around the death of Bob Falfa, thereby effectively severing all of Ford’s loose ends in Lucasfilm-owned properties. The 74-year old leading man didn’t specify which other characters he wants killed off, but he made one thing very clear: should a sequel to any of his films be greenlit, he will demand a death scene in the film or an implied off screen death.
As expected, a veritable who’s who of Hollywood screenwriters are jumping at the opportunity to cash-in on Ford’s likeness one last time. FSW has learned that at least 12 scripts featuring Dr. Richard Kimble (The Fugitive) along with 5 others focused on John Book (Witness) are being actively shopped at various studios.
“The opportunity to close the book on John Book… I mean, bro… I’m stoked,” said an anonymous half-Amish screenwriter pictured above.
Not surprisingly, J.J. Abrams is said to be interested in writing a sequel to Regarding Henry – which he penned under the name Jeffrey Abrams – in order to give the character of Henry Turner “a fond farewell.” No word on whether Abrams’ script for Regarding The Death of Henry has found a studio yet. Abrams had this to say from the set of Mission: Impossible 6 (which ironically will feature a Ford cameo as a motorist killed in an accident due to reckless driving from Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt).
“The film that gave my career life deserves a sequel that gives Harrison’s character death.”
It remains to be seen whether Ford’s passionate stance against being resurrected as CGI sparks a new trend in Hollywood. However, we suspect contracts are likely to address the complicated issue moving forward.
