Harrison Ford Sets New Fashion Trend Among Septuagenarians with Blade Runner 2049
Los Angeles, CA —74-year old leading man Harrison Ford continues to be a style icon for the Golden Years crowd. His latest look, which debuted in the Blade Runner 2049 trailer, has already been embraced by men and women throughout assisted living facilities from coast to coast. Apparently, a basic tee shirt paired with workwear dungarees is just what the 70+ set has been waiting for.
According to Hanes Her Way representative Wilbur Knotts, “we haven’t seen such demand for our classic tee in heather gray since The Great War.”
Wrangler Jeans has also experienced a spike in sales for their straight leg, elastic waistband-powered, two pocket denim. “Granddad jeans are back! Our data suggests even 50-year olds are sporting the look as their go-to athleisure outfit,” said company spokesperson Gertrude Berenstain.
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Harrison Ford’s on-screen fashion has set a trend. His iconic Han Solo look from the original Star Wars inspired multiple generations of college women. As a result, you cannot visit a campus during the Fall season without seeing legion of women sporting vests and brown boots. Similarly, Ford’s straw top hat and suspenders combo in Witness transformed entire communities into adopting the look, while inexplicably giving up the use of electricity.
The fashion industry isn’t alone in benefitting from the Hollywood legend’s new style. Pfizer is also enjoying record sales of Viagra thanks to the “vision of virility” that Harrison Ford in a tee shirt and jeans represents. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. claims the fashion may translate into box office gold for Blade Runner 2049.
“We’re tracking to crush Batteries Not Included and even Cocoon’s opening weekends among 70-79 year olds, thanks to Harrison. But I think it’s also the fact that we’re bringing to life a dystopia 30 years away, where it’s okay to be old and alive and comfortable in your own skin. That’s a compelling proposition for someone in their golden years,” said Warner rep Joyce Lee.
Lee may have a point, but it’s hard to argue against how influential what Ford wears or does not wear is among people his age. In fact, only hours after the Blade Runner 2049 trailer debuted, the dashing star was named AARP’s 2017 “Sexiest Septuagenarian Still Alive.”
Will Blade Runner 2049 be a success among younger moviegoers though? That’s really the big intangible. Without the 18-49-year old crowd, the sequel may be destined for a tepid debut and relegated to the same fate as Blade Runner, which became a cult classic many years after release. What do you think?
