Kelly Marie Tran Has Never Watched A Star Wars Film and Probably Won’t See The Last Jedi

Kelly Marie Tran Hasn't Watched Any Star Wars Film and Probably Won't See The Last Jedi

In a recent interview, series newcomer Kelly Marie Tran admitted that she has never watched a Star Wars film. While she is a “self-proclaimed nerd” she has never been interested in the Galaxy Far, Far Away created by George Lucas and still isn’t.

Tran explained that the original trilogy films were “too old” for a millennial to watch and the prequels had awful ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, so she didn’t want to waste her time on them when she could be watching Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

When asked why she has not watched Star Wars since being cast as as Rose Tico, a Resistance technician, in Episode VIII, Tran had this to say:

“I don’t want to model [Rose] after someone I’d seen in one of the movies.  I don’t want Rose to be the next “Landro” or “Wickey” or Jar Jar. She needs to be her own character not a rehash of one from an old movie from before I was even born.”

So to this day, Kelly Marie Tran still has not watched a Star Wars film, not even The Force Awakens or Rogue One from the Disney era of Lucasfilm. Tran went on to say she probably won’t even watch The Last Jedi when it releases either.

“I’m also not really into “space-y” movies either. The last space movie I watched was Space Buddies and it left a real sour taste in my mouth for space movies so I probably wont watch “The Lost Jedis.” I’ll totally be at the premiere though; red carpet selfies will be great for my Instagram! Hashtag blessed!”

Kelly is however a huge fan of the porgs. She says they’re so cute she wants to take one with her everywhere she goes and liked to hide the practical puppets around the set in every scene she was in.

What do you think of Kelly not wanting to watch any Star Wars movie? Is she really a treasure of Star Wars fandom? Let us know what you think in the comments!
