Doctors Warn Kylo Ren Challenge Leaves Emotional Scars
Put a shirt on, Kylo fans — clinical psychologists have deemed the popular #KyloRenChallenge a considerable threat to emotional well-being. The tongue-in-cheek challenge, which involves posing topless in high-waisted black pants or spandex, is said to result in mood swings, feelings of despair, self-loathing, anxiety, depression, constipation, general disappointment and patricidal tendencies according to experts at the B.F. Skinner Institute in Vienna.
“It’s all fun and games until someone wakes up in tears, hating their father and really questioning whether they’re capable of love or even deserving of it,” said Dr. Ephraim Katz.
According to Katz, young men are particularly susceptible to the psychological side effects brought on by the Kylo Ren Challenge, but woman and children are not completely immune. So before you go and reenact Kylo’s iconic buff pose from The Last Jedi, you may want to think twice.
“What good are likes in social media when it makes you stop liking yourself? This Kylo challenge is a dangerous trend, and hooligans like John Mayer are sending out the wrong message. He may have the resources to enter therapy once symptoms kick in, but does the average Star Wars fan? I fear we may lose an entire generation of young men to eternal sadness.”
It’s not all gloom and doom though. The Skinner Institute reports the challenge is having positive physical effects on those who strike the pose. “There’s certainly been a renewed interest in being shredded or swole – as the kids say – because of how fit and defined Kylo Ren’s physique is in The Last Jedi. Thousands of people are actually using the challenge as inspiration to keep their New Year’s resolution. But again, there’s a tradeoff. Is looking good worth feeling terrible? I think Luke Skywalker would say Definitely not, kids.”
Fortunately, there seems to be another Star Wars icon hitting the gym. Recently, prequel star Ewan McGregor was spotted working out with Tony Horton of P90X fame. Could there be an Obi-Wan Challenge in the future, perhaps in time for the announcement of the Kenobi spinoff film? If so, we can’t help but assume the #ObiWanChallenge will have positive effects for mind, body and soul – at least from a certain point of view.
