Details On Poe Dameron’s New Look In Episode IX
After having been unceremoniously demoted to Captain in The Last Jedi, Poe Dameron has some big purple boots to fill in Episode IX. According to a spy who doubles as a Diversity New Hire within the Art Department at Lucasfilm, not only will Captain Poe be promoted to Vice Admiral of the dwindling Resistance army, he will also don the iconic shade of purple made famous by his predecessor, the late Amilyn Holdo. If you recall, Holdo and Dameron butt heads over the ace pilot’s insubordination and ill-advised attack on a First Order dreadnought, which led to the deaths of several female bomber pilots. Dameron learned his lesson, however, and demonstrated newfound responsibility and considerable restraint during the military standoff at Crait.
We’re told Episode IX takes place several years after the events of The Last Jedi, and Dameron has risen through the ranks using a combination of piloting skills and brains-over-brawn tactical strategies. Meanwhile General Leia becomes critically injured on a secret mission to the Outer Rim. She eventually expires, but not before relinquishing command of the Resistance to her spiritual son, the newly dubbed Admiral Dameron. In a brave move that will be talked about for years to come, Dameron pays homage to Holdo and her amazing Katharr ‘lightspeed ramming’ maneuver by trading his pilot’s uniform for a purple spandex outfit accentuated by a lilac veil and chic purple highlights topped with a golden halo. It’s a bold visual representation of the internal evolution Dameron has gone through as well as a literal blossoming of his gender-neutral stance on battlefield tactics.
Dameron debuts his fierce new look during a military briefing aboard the Millennium Falcon. Apparently, he gives a heartfelt eulogy for General Leia before assuming command of the Resistance. Our spy reports the rest of Episode IX’s plot is still being hashed out, but J.J. Abrams has already requested at least one callback to The Last Jedi. Similar to the rallying cry that begins with “We are the spark…”, our informant claims Poe will deliver a sequel of sorts that continues the fire symbolism: “We are the flame that will torch the blaze that will liquefy the First Order down.” Captain Phasma can surely attest to the sentiment.
