Top 10 Big Bad Bosses That Were Almost In Solo

If you haven’t seen Solo yet, go now! And if you have seen young Han’s Star Wars Story already, go again! One of the action-packed film’s big surprises is the identity of the Big Bad. Without spoiling the reveal for those who haven’t seen the film, let’s just say it involves someone who cheated death…

On that note, in a recent interview, Solo director Ron Howard mentioned that Solo’s original directors Lord and Miller (who were let go due to creative differences) had left the villain open to interpretation. Apparently, the duo had simply written “Boss” in their script.

Sources also confirm Lord and Miller had a piece of paper with a running list of potential bosses, but could never settle on any one. Well, our spies managed to get their grubby littlee hands on the sheet… so sit back and kiss your lucky dice, because here come The Top 10 Big Bad Bosses That Were Almost In Solo.

Dark Helmet
As huge fans of Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs, Lord and Miller became obsessed with Dark Helmet during their formative years. The pair had hoped to use the ridiculous villain as the foundation for young Han’s sense of humor. “Imagine these two goofballs going quip-to-quip, mano a mano,” is how Miller pitched the crossover idea to Kathleen Kennedy, according to an insider. Alas, Dark Helmet did not make the cut, but there is hope that a sequel to Spaceballs will some day happen. Given Mel Brooks’ age, it might even be directed by Lord and Miller at this point.

Darth Insanious
Before Galen Marek became Starkiller, the Maker had a little bit of fun with the developers of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. According to lore keepers and troll historians, Lucas felt Darth Vader’s apprentice should carry a more menacing name than Starkiller. So he suggested Darth Icky and Darth Insanious, the latter of which had Lord and Miller in stitches when they heard the tale from a former LucasArts employee. “They wanted cast Shaggy 2 Dope from Insane Clown Posse, but Larry [Kasdan] and Kathy [Kennedy] thought the idea was insane and not in a meta Insanious-being-insane-clown-posse-guy-kind-of-way, just in a crazy-idea-that’d-never-use kind of way.”

Young Snoke
The mysterious big bad villain from The Last Jedi almost took center stage in Solo. Directors Lord and Miller had become obsessed with Snoke theories, and the notion of a young, preternaturally handsome giant seemed too good to pass up. Sources claim young Snoke’s role in Solo would have also climaxed with a coaxium explosion that horribly disfigured the future Supreme leader. Unfortunately, Lucasfilm has other plans for Snoke’s backstory, so Lord And Miller were told to pick a different big bad villain.

Sifo-Dyas
Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas was considered as an unorthodox villain for Solo. Lord And Miller thought it would be fun for Sifo-Dyas to play out a John Conner style Terminator plot. Using his foresight, the Jedi would have seen a cataclysmic future triggered by old Han Solo. So in his infinite wisdom, Sifo-Dyas would have teamed up with Kaminoan cloners and Boba Fett to capture Solo and make him rewrite the future by shooting Greedo first.

Count Chocula
The “Prince Of Chocolate” as he’s known in cereal circles, Count Chocula was seen as a “sweet, sweet baddie” by Lord And Miller. The duo planned on intertwining Chocula’s origin story with Han’s via the Count’s pet squirrel. Sources claim young Han would have accidentally killed the little furry, sending the Count into madness. In his rage, Chocula was to have kidnapped Chewbacca and forced him to play the role of his dearly departed squirrel. This would have been a dark, dark Chocula.

Xizor
Crimson Dawn, the gang led by Dryden Vos, was originally going to be the Black Sun crime syndicate from Shadows of the Empire. Lord and Miller hired Michael K. Williams to play Black Sun’s alien leader Xizor. However, once the directors were removed, scheduling conflicts made it impossible for Williams to remain on the project. So the Black Sun plans were sunset in favor of Crimson Dawn. And because of this, we really want to sing Black Hole Sun now.

Lego George Lucas
The most meta big baddie on the list, Lego George Lucas would have discovered Disney’s plan to mass produce yearly live action Star Wars films, and not taken it so well. The little brick man would have the ability to undo anything in the film, and Han would have to race against time as his world slowly and literally deconstructed. “Lego Lucas would have been a miniature Thanos, really, with the ability to reconfigure or simply erase anything in the spinoff,” said a source at Lucasfilm.

Tsavong Lah
At one point, Lord and Miller felt the bloodthirsty warmonger of the Yuuzhan Vong, Tsavong Lah, was the iconic villain Solo needed. Not only would he raise the stakes considerably for the side story, but the inclusion of the iconic species would also expand the universe, which to date, under Disney has been slow going. Sadly, this was nixed because certain Legends lore was said to still be off-limits. Your day shall come, Tsavong Lah… just not yet.

Darth Revan
Lord and Miller’s favorite Sith, Darth Revan was also considered as the main antagonist for Solo. However the directors had no way to reconcile how or why Han Solo could deal with a force user early in his life… then act surprised to see the Force in action during the original trilogy.

Anthony Ingruber as Han’s Twin Brother Haan
The ultimate twist – and, sadly one of the reasons for Lord and Miller’s departure — was their insistence on hiring young Harrison Ford lookalike Anthony Ingruber to play Haan, the slightly off-kilter twin brother to Alden Ehrenreich’s Han’s. The directors felt this added the right level of Face Off-like comedic chaos that audiences have come to love about Han Solo. “Two Hans for the price of one – what fun, is what they told anyone who would listen,” said an insider. Not many would.
