Surviving Beastie Boys To Cameo In Episode IX
Say what you will about Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi… but it was decidedly NOT hip-hop, which is actually fellow Disney Star Wars director J.J. Abrams only complaint about the film. “Rian’s script had me jealous, but the film’s overall tone created an alt-pop — at times even J-pop vibe — much more than that old school hip-hop pastiche I established with The Force Awakens.”
According to sources, Abrams will be “flipping the switch” once again, doubling down on his love of rap, specifically his fanboying of seminal rap group The Beastie Boys. We’re told the surviving members of the trio, Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) and Michael Diamond (Mike D) will be playing a pair of Abednedo aliens in Episode IX.
If you recall, Abrams included an Abednedo — Ello Asty, named after The Beastie Boys album Hello Nasty — in Episode VII. This time around, Horovitz will be playing a character named Eck Our Ead, while Diamond will be portraying Aul’s Outique. In case you didn’t notice, both new aliens are also named after classic albums by the Beasties.
What do you think of the Beastie Boys in Episode IX? Fun way to add some hip-hop flavor to Star Wars or just another frivolous obsession by a mediocre filmmaker? Post a comment and let us know!
