Comic-Con Attendee Rages After Mark Hamill’s Cosplay Sham

Everyone in Star Wars and the greater geek fandom are aware of Mark Hamill’s superb Twitter schemes, shams, and all-round fakery, but this time Mr. Hamill has out-faked even himself. While the annual San Diego Comic-Con was taking place over the weekend, Hamill took to Twitter to tweet out that he was somewhere on the convention floor cosplaying in a variety of different costumes; from a classic Stormtrooper, to the Incredible Hulk in his Thor: Ragnarok appearance, to a member of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and finally a mashup worthy of a presidency.

Getting most of the attention was the above pictured Donald Trump/Darth Vader character, dubbed “Orange Vader” by Mark, to the point of convention goers taking selfies with this amalgamation of greatness and posting to Twitter, tagging Hamill in the process.

Dozens of photos of fans with Orange Vader have made their ways to the internet, all tagging Hamill and they sincerely believed it to be the wonderful Mark Hamill under the toupee’d orange helmet!

Well, the jig is up, Hamsters! Hamill finally revealed that he wasn’t even in San Diego this past weekend and that the cosplayer in question was actually James Cherry, a Redlands native with an affinity for creating Republican Sith Lords. While most fans assumed Hamill was up to his old schemes, including the staff at FSW who can spot a fake from a parsec away,  many were insulted that the actor would lie to them on social media.

Hamill went on to say, “It was all in good fun and simply a joke meant to playfully mind-trick my fans and friends.” But that wasn’t good enough for a dedicated Hamill fan club out of Topeka, Kansas. The leader of the “Topeka Hamsters,” Pat Stevens was eager to share the truth and called us on our 800 line.

“It’s just plain rude! When I heard Hamill was actually at Comic-Con, I cancelled my [Live Action Role Play] for Friday afternoon and hopped on the next red eye to San Diego on Thursday night. I even posed with this fraud in the Vader Trump costume for a selfie and posted on my MySpace page! I’m going to sue Hamill and demand he reimburse me for my plane tickets and hotel stay. I used to be a huge fan of Hamill, even naming all three of my children after him but now I’m ashamed to even follow him on Instagram.”

We reached out to Hamill on Twitter DM regarding Stevens’ comments and he had this to say:

“That Stevens is a troll. I won’t feed that troll and you shouldn’t either.”

Well Mark, we need the ad revenue, so we’ll keep entertaining your stunts — and the people who fall for them!
