Dave Bautista Says He’ll Quit Star Wars If James Gunn’s Script Isn’t Used
In his second interview since James Gunn was dismissed by Disney, Dave Bautista tells FSW that he will no longer be a Star Wars fan if Gunn is not rehired. The former WWE performer-turned-actor says he has asked Lucasfilm to release him from his fan contract over the firing of Gunn.
Bautista, who portrays Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said he would be doing Gunn a “disservice” if he continued to fanboy over Star Wars.
“I love the prequels and the sequels. But I love James more. And by acting on a smear campaign against a good man, Disney made the decision for me. I can no longer support any Marvel or Star Wars project. I spoke to George Lucas the day after James was fired, and he agreed the white slavers don’t deserve James, or me.”
When reminded that he was contractually obligated to be a Star Wars fan and appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Bautista spoke from the heart.
“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use James’ script, then I’m going to ask Lucasfilm to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. Disney can find another Star Wars fan anywhere.”
FSW reached out to Disney for comment on this story, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
