Kylo Ren’s Scar Returning To Original Position for Episode IX
The Scar Wars Saga continues as the ongoing battle over the placement of Kylo Ren’s facial scar rages into its third episode. According to FSW sources, director J.J. Abrams plans to return the scar back to its original position as seen in The Force Awakens, with the top most edge in the center of Ren’s forehead. We’re told Abrams thought it was “silly” for Rian Johnson to have relocated the scar in The Last Jedi, so the mark would only run through Ren’s right eyebrow.
“Kylo is torn in two – both emotionally and physically. The whole point of the scar is to hit you over the head with the symbolism. For Rian to move it so it’s only on one side of his face is dishonest filmmaking of the worst kind,” said Abrams on a recorded conference call with Bob Iger and Dave Filoni.
As an executive producer of The Last Jedi, Abrams could have easily nixed the idea in production, so it seems there’s something else, deeper beneath the surface, eating away at him. Insiders believe it was one of Ryan’s tweets that truly triggered Abrams. Referring to the original Kylo Ren scar as “goofy looking,” Johnson may have sealed his fate. Since then, we’re told Abrams has taken joy in watching The Last Jedi become the most divisive Star Wars film of all time.
“It’s the only reason JJ signed on for Episode IX. He wants to move the scar back, then undo some of the sillier things Johnson did,” said someone close to the production.
Will this be the last episode in the facial tug of war between Abrams and Johnson? Only time will tell, although there are rumors of a separate Kylo Ren trilogy in the works. Who knows where his scar will wind up in those films!
