Kylo Cosplayer’s Butt Causes Butthurt
That’s no moon — popular Italian cosplayer Imriel and his longtime collaborator Daisy are facing a social media backlash after posting an artful image of Imriel’s backside. The romantic image in question featured a nude Kylo laying atop Rey with the dark prince’s butt facing the camera.
Despite being artfully lit and in line with Reylo content the pair has posted in the past, several of Imriel’s followers took issue with the image. A mere 24 hours after posting the collaboration, over 100 people unfollowed the male half of ‘Team Italy’ from the 2016 World Cosplay Summit.
“I usually love their Reylo photo sets, but this one crossed the line for me. Because once you strip away the costume part of cosplay, all you’re left with is play… and that’s not what I want to see. To be clear, I completely support Rey shedding some layers, maybe just leaving her boots on, but Kylo should be clothed at all times, preferably in his helmet and cape, too,” said former follower and cosplay aficionado Tony Billingsly.
Imriel made light of the slight exodus his keyster caused, posting an amused reaction on his Instagram Stories feed. The drama caused by the image points to a double standard in the world of cosplay, which oftentimes only caters to the straight male gaze.
“I don’t have the metrics in front of me, but if you check Imriel and Daisy’s previous photos… I guarantee you sexy images of Rey typically result in an uptick in followers and likes for the couple,” said Mary Lee, a popular contributor to the Mary Sue’s comment section.
Despite shedding followers after losing his clothes, Imriel remains unfazed and 100% committed to his art. FakingStarWars applauds him for sticking to his guns… and his buns! All jokes aside, even the most butthurt fans are slowly coming to realize how ridiculous it is to unfollow someone for a bit of tasteful nudity. “I’m open to following Imriel again… if he promises to add a spoiler warning next time. So I know there’s man butt up in there,” admitted Billingsly.
