DC Fans Protest Use Of “Underwater Star Wars” To Describe Aquaman Movie
“It’s absolutely disgusting. Aquaman is the greatest superhero film ever made not directed by Zack Snyder… to compare it to Disney’s terrible Star Wars movies is to water down everything we’ve achieved,” said DC comics fan and MakingAquaman.net webmaster Terry “Aqua” Knight.
Since the review embargo on Aquaman lifted, critics and fans lucky enough to go to early screenings have been posting their impressions online. It wasn’t long before click bait-y sites began making comparisons to other films, with “Underwater Star Wars” being the most controversial. DC fans throughout social media are much happier with comparisons to the smash hit Wonder Woman film or Marvel’s mega successful Black Panther.
“That’s like saying Suicide Squad is really just Waterworld on land. You can’t compare an Oscar winner to a three-time Razzie nominee. Star Wars has no business being in the same sentence as Aquaman,” said comic book expert and moderately successful YouTuber Sal “Cardback” Backley.
Ironically, the backlash created by the infamously vocal DC fan base set off a chain reaction that led to Star Wars prequel fans claiming the entire premise is flawed and outside the realm of canon.
“How can Aquaman be underwater Star Wars when The Phantom Menace was already underwater Star Wars? Hello, Otoh Gunga! Furthermore, DC fans can only wish their fish man movie could have the cultural impact Episode I had. There are literally more prequel memes than there are drops in the oceans. So DC fanboys and girls should be flattered someone compared Aquaman to Star Wars, not insulted,” said FSW intern Sandra Cisneros-Schwartz.
What do you think of the comparison? Does Aquaman look like “Underwater Star Wars”? Is the comparison an insulted or a compliment? Let us know when you think in the comments or in social.
