AOC Endorses Shadows Of The Empire For Nintendo 64

The Force is strong with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Not only has the 29-year old darling of the Democrats inspired Rey’s look in Episode IX, the Bronx native is also showing some love to the Expanded Universe. Cortez recently sat down with FSW for an old-school gaming session in our parking lot experience at SXSW.

FSW: Thanks for stopping by, Alexandra.

AOC: Please, call me Alex.

FSW: Great. Well, Alex you’ve been making considerable waves throughout Star Wars fandom, not to mention the Senate and the Twittersphere, but priorities, right?

AOC: Jaja. You’re so kind, William. I suppose you can say I sorta broke the internet for wearing white during my swearing in ceremony. And since then, I’ve become this bizarre demi-gorgon-like being on Twitter.

FSW: With great power comes…

AOC: So true, but please don’t meme Marvel at me. I’m Star Wars to the core, baby.

FSW: Marry me… err…I mean… so your popularity has made you highly sought after, like Mon Mothma must have been following the destruction of the first Death Star.

AOC: Now you’re talking, Willy! It’s true. My responsibilities these days seem to encompass so much more than I ever expected. Not that I’m complaining. But AOC has definitely become a separate being, whereas Alex is still this girl from the block who prefers to keeps it simple, y’know.

FSW: Totes! So, what does Alex like to do on her downtime? How do you get your Star Wars on when AOC isn’t looking?

AOC:  I’m a huge fan of the prequels. I know they’re not the greatest films ever, but there’s something about those films, and maybe because I grew up with them, that I love to revisit. Still crushing on Hayden!

FSW: Me too! I even watched his new pizza movie with Emma Roberts!

AOC: O.M.G. I’m on like my 30th viewing of Little Italy. Glad I’m not alone.

FSW: So, you’re a hardcore prequel lover, got it. But are there any other Star Wars books, films, or games you like more than others?

AOC: I love me some Expanded Universe — a lot of those books were game changers. The scope of the world-building and the intergalactic politics… pretty sure I read every single EU novel, at least until the early 2000’s.

FSW: If I asked you to pick a favorite… would you hate me in the morning?

AOC: Jaja. I could never hate you. In all seriousness though, transmedia has come a long way, but it really owes a debt to Shadows of the Empire for showing the world how entertainment can resonate with everyone, no matter what you identify as.

FSW: Dash Rendar For The Win!

AOC: For reals, that’s my dude right there. Remember that train heist platforming level? So clutch! The Nintendo 64 is vastly underrated. It was a beast. Can’t tell you how often I go back to play Shadows.

FSW: I know our time is almost up, but can we quickly swerve and talk about the new Star Wars movies?

AOC: The elephant in the room, jaja. Listen, as a Democratic socialist, I applaud what Kathleen Kennedy is doing with the franchise. I may not agree with some of the creative choices, because I find a lot of the messages to be way too on the nose, but it’s better to have those kinds of stories out there than not.

FSW: Thanks for your time, Alex. Marry me.

AOC: Jaja. You’re awesome. Next time I’m in town, Star Wars dance party.
