Cosplayer Wows with Jedi Garb
TAMPA, EAST VIRGINIA — Everyone from your dog to your grandma cosplays in this age of nerd culture being main stream. Today however, all eyes are focused on one white blonde female cosplayer as she gears up in Star Wars prequel era clothing.
Meet Leigh Barton, a 29-year-old call center manager and local champ of Dover County’s cosplay competition in East Virginia, USA. After wooing judges over the weekend, her images went viral and Star Wars fans across the globe are begging for her to be cast in a live-action film or TV series.
This cosplayer has even captured the attention of prequel era actor Samuel L. Jackson who has met and posed with her; even allowing her to hold his sacred purple “Mace Windu’s” lightsaber. But will this be enough to snag her a role or even a walk on cameo in an upcoming project? We reached out to Ricardo Jones of the Lucasfilm Story Group to get his take on this cosplayer.
“Yeah I guess she looks like a Jedi in those clothes but can she act? Can she not look at the camera when it’s pointed at her? Because in every single photo of her dressed as a Jedi she is dead-eyeing the camera and that’s not good for an actor. Besides, it’s not up to me; that decision would go to the casting director. All my job is is to make sure nuts and bolts for droids are called the same thing in novels.”
What do you think of Leigh Barton? Should she get a role in a live-action Star Wars film or TV series? Let us know in the comments below or on social media.
