Oscar Winner Daniel Day-Lewis Joins the Galaxy Far, Far Away
Esteemed actor Daniel Day-Lewis is coming out of retirement to be in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Day-Lewis will follow in the footsteps of Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, and Princes William and Harry, and play an anonymous stormtrooper.
Director J.J. Abrams was very excited to work with the award-winning actor.
“You know, to work with a legendary actor like Daniel is such a privilege. He brought an intensity to the character that was unmatched by anyone on set, and I’m including Adam and Daisy in that group. He was on set for only one day and didn’t have any lines, but what he brought to the table nearly changed the course of the movie. If he came to set earlier, we would’ve scrapped the whole script and had him be the main villain as this random stormtrooper.”
— J.J. Abrams, director
According to one production assistant, Day-Lewis was very intense even off-camera.
“He never took off his helmet, even when he got food from craft services. I have no idea how he ate. I tried to ask him, but he didn’t answer me. Apparently he wasn’t going by the name Daniel or Mr. Day-Lewis that day. He only responded to his stormtrooper designation, DL-2512. You can tell when he was leering at you, even with his helmet on. He was that intense. Such a professional.”
–Annie Cooley, craft services supervisor
There were also rumblings of a stormtrooper, without provocation, attacking Oscar Isaac and John Boyega in between takes. As of now, nobody is quite sure who the armored assailant was, but everyone is assuming it was Daniel Day-Lewis. Isaac recounts the incident.
“John and I were just hanging out on set, eating Cheeto’s, waiting to film our next scene, and out of nowhere a stormtrooper ran up to John, called him a traitor and threw him against the wall! I tried to step in; that’s where he slapped me in the face and said, ‘This doesn’t concern you, pilot!’ I couldn’t see his face under the helmet, but I felt a really intense stare. It was probably Daniel [Day-Lewis]. You gotta give it up to the guy, he gives his all to every role. No matter how small.”
–Oscar Isaac, actor
We reached out to Day-Lewis’s management agency but they blocked us on Linked In. There’s no confirmation on whether or not Day-Lewis will make the final cut of the film.
