Droids Anime Reboot Coming from Kevin Smith to Disney+
That’s right, fakers! The classic 80’s animated series Droids is getting an anime reboot from iconic writer-director and Star Wars superfan Kevin Smith! Smith will be executive producer and showrunner for the limited series coming to Disney+. The Droids reboot was likely meant to be revealed at D23 later this week but Silent Bob let it slip at a small fan event over the weekend.
The new series, “Star Wars Droids: Revelations,” will focus on the unresolved story lines from the original 1985 series, picking up where it left off decades ago but also bringing it back into canon.
“I’m fluent in six million forms of geek crying, and Star Wars is at the top. When Kathy [Kennedy] asked me to head a Droids animated series, I was floored. How could I say no? It will be set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It’s the Droids series fans truly wanted as kids.”
-Kevin Smith
Smith also confirmed that Anthony Daniels will return to voice C-3PO but will also feature voices of many other voice actors.
“Not only will we have Anthony Daniels, but also Mark freaking Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo! My daughter Harley Quinn will voice a new character called Que, the strong female lead and R2-D2’s pansexual lover. It’s gonna be great! Okay, I have to go cry again. Snoochie boochies!”
Expect Star Wars Droids: Revelations to hit Disney+ streaming in the spring of 2020.
