William Shatner Has a Role in Episode IX After Winning Bet Against JJ Abrams
For months JJ Abrams has been working day and night in Pinewood Studios’ editing bay putting the final touches on The Rise of Skywalker. But last month, an unexpected visit from TJ Hooker himself, William Shatner, threw a wrench into Abrams’ tiring production schedule
During a visit to England, Shatner visited the production to connect with Abrams, who remains a close friend after their work on the Star Trek films together. Shatner was shocked to find a disheveled and disoriented Abrams frantically trying to get the timing of Maz Kanata standing up as Klaud, the slug alien, slithers away and Poe Dameron enters the frame aligned for a key scene. Hoping to lift his friend’s spirits, Shatner invited Abrams to a nearby pub to get some fresh air and a break from the grueling editing.
According to those at the pub, Abrams polished off three Appletinis and a Cosmopolitan before confessing to Shatner he was dreading next week’s reshoots and editing. It was at that time the drunken director turned his attention to the TV and noticed a pro bowling game being broadcast. During one of the frames, a bowler was attempting the infamous seven-ten split. Abrams laughed and offered Shatner a role in The Rise of Skywalker if the bowler could accomplish the feat. Of course, the legendary actor accepted the bet. They spit in their hands and entered into agreement with a shake. The pub erupted in applause when the pins fell while Abrams was in a state of shock, realizing he’d have to add another day to his already-packed schedule.
The duo then left the pub to make their way back to Pinewood Studios. Upon arriving Shatner was fitted for a costume and then taken to make up.
It is unknown at this time who the author of the bestselling TekWar series is playing in The Rise of Skywalker. According to attentive viewers of the latest trailer Mr. Shatner can be seen around the 30 second mark in the hanger bay, which he confirmed on social media! Can YOU spot him?
