Solo Cast Calls For Disney to #ReleaseTheLordAndMillerCut
The cries for a sequel to Solo: A Star Wars Story have been echoing for quite some time after the fan movement #MakeSolo2Happen was created by the fine folks at the Resistance Broadcast but an even more grassroots campaign has finally hit the mainstream in Star Wars social circles. When the cast of Solo saw Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, and Ray Fisher rally behind director Zack Snyder to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, they were inspired to do the same for Solo, thus #ReleaseTheLordAndMillerCut was born.
The hashtag was first tweeted out by Lando Calrissian actor Donald Glover which sent clickbait sites into a frenzy, especially after his co-stars did the same. Nerd gossip sites, which specialize in editorializing tweets from Mark Hamill and the like, spread the news like wildfire and created new blog posts for each actor that posted their support for the movement.
At the time of publication not only has Donald Glover tweeted out #ReleaseTheLordAndMillerCut but so has Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Joonas Suotamo, Jon Favreau, and Thandie Newton. Michael K. Williams, who was replaced by Paul Bettany when Ron Howard took over, even showed support for the movement because he didn’t want his work as the alien-cat mo-cap version of Dryden Vos to go to waste.
The icing on the cake, however, was when Phil Lord and Chris Miller joined in and tweeted out the hashtag with a photo of their folded socks, which is rumored to be the reason Kathleen Kennedy fired them in the first place.
Will Lucasfilm and Disney heed their call to release Lord and Miller’s version of Solo: A Star Wars Story? Only time will tell. Do you think it should be released to the public? Do people really even want this? Let us know in the comments below or hit us up on Twitter.
