Faking Star Wars Sued by Angry Fans for ‘Being Silly’

Followers of the comedy, parody, satire Star Wars fan site FakingStarWars were shocked and dismayed yesterday by the news that lawyers associated with anonymous Star Wars fans had launched a legal suit against the site. Our resident legal scholar has analyzed the brief and summarized it as thus:

“Basically this is your classic defamation case, but with a twist. These unnamed fans have an image to protect, and they view the folks at FakingStarWars and their associated podcasts as a massive threat to preserving fandom. FSW has contributed to creating an image of Star Wars fandom as the following: ‘silly, irreverent, and even occasionally sarcastic’. These fans will have none of this and even claim it’s causing them pain and suffering.”

–D. Maul, Esquire, Faking Star Wars lawyer

Although the website is a parody new blog that makes little to no money, these fans have not taken that fact as reason to withhold legal action. Sure, they could just block or mute the fakers on Twitter but they want FakingStarWars wiped from the archive memory.

“These so called ‘fans’ of Star Wars are simply gatekeepers and can’t take a joke aimed at them or their precious franchise. Many of them also try to lump us into the Fandom Menace crowd. Sure, we associate with them but we are simply neutral. We don’t side with them or the self-proclaimed shills. We make fun of both to keep the balance of the Force and Faux.”

–Link “Vox” Voximilian, Head Of Creative Content of Faking Star Wars

This isn’t the first time FakingStarWars has been in the cross hairs of a lawsuit. The site was under fire from now-terminated Star Wars novelist Chuck Wendig, who threatened to sue after FSW put a caricature of him on a t-shirt. And even before that, FSW received a cease and desist letter from Lucasfilm, Ltd. themselves after posting a leaked image of Luke Skywalker prior to the release of The Force Awakens. Obviously nothing ever came from these threats as the site is still up and running.

So worry not, as nothing will come from this latest lawsuit as it is totally fake and so is our lawyer.
