EXCLUSIVE: ‘Star Wars: Episode X: The Search For Kylo’ In Development

Despite Disney heavily promoting The Rise of Skywalker as the end of the Skywalker saga, FSW has exclusively learned that Lucasfilm is already in development of a tenth Skywalker-centric film, one that will restore Ben Solo/Kylo Ren as a surviving character in canon.

A source close to Disney CEO Bob Iger has told FSW that the House of Mouse is scrambling to repair damage done by the last two episodic Star Wars films.

“We assumed that giving Reylos that kiss before killing off Kylo would give them the satisfaction of being right about the ship without having to pay it off with little baby Reys or Bens in the future. Sh*t, were we so f*cking wrong!”

Most shipper types who were paying attention during the sequel trilogy’s first entry, The Force Awakens, came away pairing Rey with Finn. However, Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi subverted that obvious expectation by setting up a romantic relationship between light-side Rey and dark-side Kylo. The two years between TLJ and TROS saw an online war between long-time Star Wars fans (many of whom believed that Rey and Ren were somehow related) and new-found, often female fans who merely wanted their favorite Mary Sue to redeem the former Ben Solo.

“We seriously underestimated the psychosis of these Twilight-franchise refugees. We had no idea how much they were projecting themselves onto Rey, or that tons of them would take the death of Kylo harder than many take the death of a boyfriend or spouse,” said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

According to the insider, it wasn’t until some of the Reylos sent death threats to TROS director JJ Abrams that Disney realized the magnitude of its mistake and set out to try to fix it.

“Almost 40 years ago, Paramount fixed Spock’s death in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan with the sequel Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. And by the time they were into JJ’s Kelvin-timeline films, that studio had learned their lesson. They reversed the death of Kirk right there with the same move he died in [Star Trek Into Darkness]. We’re going down that same road, correcting the mistake with creative storytelling rather than just trying to overtly retcon everything from TLJ the way JJ did in Episode IX.”

The source says that the premise involves the idea of Ben Solo/Kylo Ren having merely “Force-teleported elsewhere” when he faded from sight during the climax of TROS. Hux (who apparently survived being shot) and the New First Order find themselves in a race with the Resistance to find Kylo/Ben, with each side hoping to lay claim to the real heir to the Skywalker legacy.

The source further said they hope Episode X will give Disney and Lucasfilm a chance to repair other problems fans had with the sequel trilogy.

“We’re going to use CGI to create new flashbacks of Luke, Leia, and Han together during the early days of the New Republic. And Rey, who will have reverted to using her legal surname, Palpatine, will basically have no Force powers at all. She’s going to have to start training all over again, this time with a teen-aged Baby Yoda as her master. We also plan to give the Knights of Ren something to do that’s actually interesting and vital to the story. We just have no clue what that’s going to be yet.”

The source went on to say that, although no screenwriter has been hired, they were hoping to get Bad Robot vets Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to scribe.

“They got [Star Trek] Into Darkness and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 done so fast, and that would be a huge help considering that we want this thing bombing at the box office by Christmas ’21.”

While no director is currently attached, Ang Lee, Tim Miller, and Elizabeth Banks are all rumored to be on Iger’s shortlist for the gig.

Kathleen Kennedy’s office did not return calls requesting comment.
