Family Services Flooded With Calls After Jon Favreau Posts Image Of George Lucas With Baby Yoda

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The phone calls have finally slowed to 12 per hour at the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, where operators saw a 500% surge in reports after a new image of “The Child” went viral.

The photo in question featured the yet-to-be-named Baby Yoda creature from The Mandalorian show in the arms of Star Wars creator George Lucas. Showrunner Jon Favreau posted the image to Instagram and Twitter, where it quickly spread because of the Internet’s fascination with anything involving Baby Yoda.

While much of the response was positive, with Star Wars fans celebrating the clear endorsement of the Disney Plus show by Lucas, some people were horrified by the image.

“No, no, no! You do not rock Baby Yoda like that. I don’t care if you’re George friggin’ Lucas… has he never heard of Shaken Baby Syndrome!?!,” tweeted a concerned mother of three cats.

Other critics took issue with the apparent speed lines in the photo, which seemed to show Lucas rocking Baby Yoda like a new born. “Way too fast. Lucas has always been a speed demon… just look at American Graffiti or the pod race in Episode One. So it’s extremely irresponsible for anyone to put Baby Yoda in his arms. I’m pretty sure George’s wife didn’t even let him rock his own child for the same reason,” posted an irate Etsy vendor on Instagram.

The uproar in social media resulted in hundreds of calls to the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. According to their spokesperson, the complaints ranged from endangering child welfare, shaken baby syndrome, threatening with CG, and neglect on the part of Favreau for allowing Lucas to come near Baby Yoda.

“We’re glad people are concerned, but they need to understand Baby Yoda is not real. So every time they call to report George Lucas for putting the alien in danger, they keep us from answering calls about genuine human children who are being mistreated by their guardians,” said the spokesperson.
