Disney Claims Ownership Of #MayTheFarce Tweets

It appears Disney has no chill, especially in regard to Star Wars Day. After claiming ownership over tweets using the hashtag #MayThe4th and upsetting fans around the world, the Mouse House is at it again. According to our sources, Disney has now set its sights on #MayTheFarce tweets.

The hashtag, which is being promoted by Shout Factory TV for the second year in a row, is meant to celebrate B-movies that were inspired by Star Wars. The network has dubbed this year’s all-day sci-fi movie marathon, “May the Farce Strikes Back.”

Star Wars memories are among the fondest things Disney consumers can make in this day and age. As owners of the IP and creators of the manufactured holiday, we believe our client is well within their right to own not only May 4th memories, but also the ones based on films — even terrible ones — inspired by Star Wars. So if anyone tags @DisneyPlus and uses #MayTheFarce in their tweets, they accept to having their funny memories appear in any future communication from our client,” said Disney attorney, Bil Schrapenheimer of the firm Schrapenheimer, Wilson and Scotty.

Essentially, what began as a good natured attempt by Shout Factory TV to drum up excitement for B-movies may result in litigation.

“It’s about as farcical as you can get, which is on brand I suppose… hashtag May the Farce haha,” said Brendon Small of adult swim’s Home Movies and Metalocalypse, who will be hosting an interactive chat on the Shout! Factory TV Twitch Channel.

“What’s next? Will Disney own Spaceballs memories, too?! Is nothing sacred,” added Small.
