EA’s Squadrons to Feature First Trans Hero in Star Wars
Motive Studios and EA showed off the next video game joining canon, Star Wars: Squadrons. Within the trailer, we get our first look at New Republic and Imperial pilots who will serve as the main characters of the game’s story. On the New Republic side, the cast is made up of both humans and aliens, one of which stood out to longtime fans of Star Wars; that, of course, being the Trandoshan.
We spoke with Motive Studios scenario writer, Taylor McDonald, who gave FSW some insight into this new character and how they represent more than just reptilian shape-shifters in the Star Wars galaxy.
“I’m glad you asked about the Trandoshan. That’s Kimm Skkyss, the first trans hero in Star Wars; I spoke with Pablo Hidalgo to verify this claim.”
We pressed McDonald to clarify what they meant by “trans” but the matter kept getting swept under the rug and we only learned about how EA will not be using Loot Boxes this time around.
“The Trandoshan is the only trans in this game, no micro-transactions here!”
How do you feel about this first “trans” in Star Wars? Will you be getting Star Wars Squadrons when it releases on October 2nd? Let us know in the comments below!
