Anthony Daniels Out of a Job; AI Robots Cast in All Droid Roles
Within hours of the announcement that an AI robot has been built and cast in a film role, the folx over at Lucasfilm issued a statement that they too will be utilizing this technology. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy made the announcement while eating a lunch of poutine and Diet Coke, stating that all droid roles in future Star Wars live-action projects will be filled by bleeding-edge robots.
We were unable to speak with Kathy but we were able to talk to C-3PO himself, Anthony Daniels, regarding the matter.
“I’ve been laid off! At first I thought Kathy was joking but no, she was speaking the truth. I will no longer portray C-3PO in Star Wars. The door is open for me to return as a human character, however, so I may do that if my book continues to under sell.”
We were told to expect the first AI robot actor to appear in Taika Waititi’s untitled Star Wars film; it does not have a release date at time of publication.
What do you think about this? Do these AI robots have to join the Screen Actors Guild? Let us know your feelings in the comments below or on social media.
