Exclusive: Lucasfilm Developing Adult Oriented Star Wars Series For Hulu
The head honchos over at Lucasfilm and Disney have been keeping this on the down low, but our sources say they are developing adult oriented Star Wars content for Hulu and Disney+ Star for the international markets. While we aren’t 100% confident in this report, the concept for the first series they have on the docket sounds quite exciting for both old fans and new but keep your younglings away when watching this trip to the Galaxy Far, Far Away. Full scoop after the break.
According to one of Jacen’s cousins, going by the name Mous Anony, Lucasfilm’s first foray into the TV-14 market is called Chiss Ascending, and will be dropping the Star Wars branding entirely to ward off younger viewers from accidentally clicking on it. It will focus on Eli Vanto (a name readers of Timothy Zahn’s new Thrawn novel series will recognize) and Ezra Bridger (from Rebels) as they serve as the only humans within the Chiss Ascendancy. The tone of the series is said to be more like Star Trek or Amazon’s The Expanse and will feature a large ensemble cast. The main plot of the show will be the Chiss continuing their domination of the Unknown Regions, leading to conflicts with Nikardun Destiny, the Grys, and apparently the Yuuzhan Vong of the now Legends, New Jedi Order novel series.
If received well from fans and critics, the plan is for this to be an ongoing series rather than a mini-series and will open the doors to more adult oriented content such as an anthology series called Tales of the Sith which is in pre-pre-pre development focusing on origins of various Sith Lords throughout Star Wars canon; i.e. Revan, Darth Bane, Darth Plagueis, etc.
While casting has yet to begin, Jacen’s cousin did mention that Lucas Black (Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift, NCIS: New Orleans) is being eyed for Eli Vanto and Mena Massoud (Disney’s Aladdin, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) for Ezra Bridger. However, Benedict Cumberbatch was offered the role of Thrawn earlier this year actually, but the Doctor Strange actor reportedly turned it down because he did not want to wear the required blue full body make up, we don’t blame him. No new names have been floated around for the character as of yet.
That’s all Jacen’s cousin Mous Anony had on this supposed mature Star Wars series. What do you think? Should Lucasfilm really made adult oriented content based on a series intended for children? Will they finally say the F word? Who do you think should blue themselves as Thrawn? Let us know on the comments below or hit me up on Twitter, @LinkVoximilian.
